A tragic incident occurred on Thursday, March 27, 2025, in the Egyptian resort of Hurghada, where a tourist submarine sank in the Red Sea, killing six Russian tourists, including two children.
The Sindbad submarine, operated by the Sindbad Submarines company, was on a coral reef viewing trip with 45 tourists from various countries, including Russia, India, Norway and Sweden, as well as five Egyptian crew members on board.
According to the statements of some survivors, the submarine would have started the dive with the hatches open, allowing water to quickly enter the interior. However, the exact cause of the sinking is still under investigation by Egyptian authorities.
Rescue teams intervened promptly, managing to save 39 tourists, nine of whom were injured, four in critical condition. The injured were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment.
The company Sindbad Submarines has been operating in the Hurghada area for several years, offering tourists the opportunity to explore coral reefs at depths of up to 25 meters. This incident raises questions about the safety measures and operating standards of underwater tours in the region.
Egyptian authorities are continuing investigations to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and to prevent such tragedies in the future.
