Planting fruit trees in spring: when and how to do it

Spring is the perfect season to plant fruit trees in your garden. This period brings with it mild temperatures and optimal humidity, ideal for the new trees to take strong roots and develop harmoniously.

The choice of fruit trees

Start by choosing varieties adapted to your local climate and soil type in your garden. Among the most popular choices for spring planting are:

  • apples
  • bristles
  • cherry
  • apricots
  • plum
  • peaches

Land preparation

To ensure a good development of fruit trees, prepare the soil carefully:

  1. Dig sufficiently wide and deep pits, about 50-60 cm deep and 60-80 cm wide.
  2. Mix the excavated soil with well-rotted compost or manure for natural fertilization.

The actual planting

Follow the simple steps for a successful planting:

  1. Place the tree's roots in the hole, making sure the grafting point is a few inches above the ground.
  2. Cover the roots with fertilized soil and press gently to eliminate air voids.
  3. Water abundantly immediately after planting.

Care after planting

To ensure optimal attachment and healthy development:

  • Water the trees regularly, especially in the first months after planting.
  • Apply a protective layer of mulch (straw, shredded tree bark) around the trunk to retain moisture and prevent weed growth.
  • Cut the damaged branches or too long to stimulate balanced crown growth.

Planting fruit trees in the spring is not only a step towards a more beautiful garden, but also a future investment for rich and delicious harvests!
